Millview Marvels vs Heckington Hawks

As the rain came down late afternoon, I thought the practice game ahead of the Charity Cricket Match between the Millview Marvels and Heckington Cricket Club aka Heckington Hawks would be called off, but in true Heckington style, the sun came out and play was certainly on!

It was high energy once the game started, from the sidelines there were cheers of support and the game looked fast paced at times. I’m looking forward to seeing the cheerleaders everyone is talking about, I hear they have lots of routines and cheers planned!

I didn’t get to see a huge amount of play, but what I did see was brilliant and in a strange way told it’s own little story in the match.

Anna ‘Midge’ Bailey looked right at home on the wicket, she played a few blinding shots, even getting four runs off one ball! Unfortunately, she was later caught by Guy ‘Gibbo’ Gibson when a short high ball was played! Although Guy’s glory was to be short lived as when he went into bat, he was bowled out very quickly by a doctor from the surgery!

I’m not sure what the final score was, but Heckington Hawks claimed victory. All in all though, the standard of cricket looked great and will certainly make a great T20 match…

The idea of the practice match was to give all the players from Millview Surgery aka Millview Marvels an opportunity to put into practice their training from over the last few weeks. It certainly achieved that and I for one am very excited to watch the Charity Cricket Match on Thursday 2nd June.

The Charity Cricket Match is in aid of the Millview Community Fund, run by Millview Medical Centre, Heckington’s General Practice Surgery. The fund was started at the beginning of the pandemic and provides the practice population a source of support, key information and financial support for projects such as food banks, among other initiatives, in both Heckington and Sleaford.

There are still tickets available for the Charity Cricket Match, which are £5 each. The tickets come with a free drink and free parking. All money raised goes to the Millview Community Fund, so please come along and show your support.
